Meet the Coach
My name is Mandy Maher. I have an amazingly supportive husband, Joe, and two young children, Lylah and Luca. I began playing softball at 4 years old and began pitching at age 9. Shortly after beginning pitching, I was asked to join a select softball team, and I played select ball until I went off to college. I attended Blue Ridge High School where I was awarded Newcomer of the Year, two-time 1st team all-district pitcher, and defensive player of the year. I was awarded a full-ride (plus books) scholarship to a junior college in Garden City, KS serving as team captain and receive honorable mention all-conference. In 2006, I was invited to play for the USA International Softball Team and served as the starting pitcher and leader in home runs. After junior college I was recruited to Dakota State University in South Dakota where I finished up my softball career. After college, I returned home and began working on my master's degree from Texas Woman's University. I began teaching and coaching in 2013 at Scott Johnson Middle School. After 4 years at the middle school, I went across the street to coach at McKinney North High School. After one year of coaching JV volleyball and softball, I was offered the head softball coaching position. I coached two years at the high school before returning to the middle school to focus on private lessons.
I have coached all ages of softball from tee ball to varsity and everything in between. I love getting to pass on my knowledge and passion for the sport. While there are many instructors out there, I often hear that I have the unique ability of explaining the WHY behind the what. Softball is a very skilled sport and requires a great deal of mental toughness. In my lessons, I teach girls a great deal about the mental side of sport. I strongly believe in being a student of the game, and I continue to study and learn as much as I can to support my athletes in every way possible. I am also a very positive person and that shows up all over my coaching. Just as I continue to grow every day, I expect my athletes to grow as well - every rep, every time.
